Minutes of the General Committee of The Centurion Lacrosse Club held at The Market Porter Public House, Stone Street, London SE1 on 8th March 2011.

Present: Peter Mundy (President), Ron Balls, Amit Biswas, Mick Chennell, Neil Forsyth, Denis Hanks, Roger Okill, Steve Williams, Geoffrey Wilkinson, Rob Collinge (Secretary).

APOLOGIES were received from John Maynard.

  1. MINUTES of the General Committee meeting held on 11th JANUARY 2011 were approved.

  2. MATTERS ARISING

    None

  3. SECRETARY’S REPORT

    1. It was agreed that the payment of £300 recently received from Denis Tobin should be treated as a payment of his next year’s subscription and a donation of £270.
    2. Equipment had been provided to Plymouth for a schools programme, and in conjunction with the South of England Educational Trust to Bournemouth University.
    3. An application for support had been received from Norwich L.C.
    4. David Shuttleworth of the ELA is to attend our next meeting.
    5. Denis Hanks and Geoffrey Wilkinson are to review and order the archives.
  4. TREASURER’S REPORT

    The club had spent record sums on development of the game this year around £10,000 had been spent if the SELET support were to be included. As a result, expenditure exceeded income by some £1,700.

    The Treasurer reported on members in arrear with subscriptions. C. Gibson and A. Silver were removed from membership and actions agreed to follow up with others in arrears.

    A donation of £50 had been made to the Stan Smith Memorial Fund in Les Grainger’s memory.

  5. FUNDING REVIEW

    A proposal to enhance donations received at the time membership subscriptions are paid by making payments through the South of England Lacrosse Educational Trust was not passed.

    It was agreed to propose an increase in subscriptions by £5 to £35 and £25 at the AGM.

    It was agreed to appeal for donations in the autumn.

    The secretary was asked to liaise with NEMLA, the Northern Lacrosse Trust and SEMLA to leverage support provided by The Centurions.

  6. ELA

    1. Recent meetings with ELA management had been useful in enhancing collaboration between us.
    2. Ron Balls updated the meeting on recent developments at the ELA including the application for support from Sport England to enhance the development of the game in the universities.
  7. SEMLA COUNTY TOURNAMENT

    The president had agreed with the SEMLA General Committee to support a county tournament to be held on 14th May at Reading LC. Ten of the ‘counties’ had expressed some interest. Jon Cooper will arrange the fixtures but will not be present. No entry fee is to be charged. All expenses will be carried by SEMLA. It was noted that the Iroquois Cup is to be played in the north on the same day.

  8. STAN SMITH AWARD

    Paddy Peacock, for his work with Bath, Wales and Bournemouth, and Tom Brunner, for his work in the Plymouth area, were dominated for this year’s Stan Smith Award.

    Tom Brunner was awarded the 2011 Centurion’s Stan Smith Award of £100.

The date of the next meeting will be 10th May 2011.
