Minutes of the General Committee of The Centurion Lacrosse Club held at The Market Porter Public House, Stone Street, London SE1 on 10th May 2011.

Present: Peter Mundy (President), Ron Balls, Amit Biswas, Mick Chennell, Neil Forsyth, Denis Hanks, Steve Williams, Rob Collinge (Secretary).

In attendance: G. Arnot, D. Shuttleworth.

APOLOGIES were received from John Maynard, Roger Okill, and Geoffrey Wilkinson.

  1. MINUTES of the General Committee meeting held on 8th March 2011 were approved.

  2. MATTERS ARISING

    None.

  3. SECRETARY’S REPORT

    1. Development.

      We have provided 10 sets of helmets and sticks to Norwich LC. Norwich has applied for membership of SEMLA. There is now a school, a university, and a club working together to develop lacrosse in the Norwich area. Thanks for our donation have been received from the club.

      An applications for support have been received from Ben Parkes, working with Colchester LC, the University of Chester, and the University of Derby. Each raises issues and we are working with the ELA to resolve these.

      The possibility of supporting lacrosse in girls schools was raised. It was agreed that this would be reviewed on its merits if received.

    2. ELA.

      The ELA has supported a drive for members. Membership packs provided by the ELA have been distributed at the Northern Flags and the Stockport 8’s. Packs were also distributed at the Southern Flags by the President.

    3. New Members.

      The following new members have joined the club; Claire Birkett, David Grinter, David Shuttleworth, Tony Pugh, Philip Gordon, Richard Summers, Ben Downton, Peter Barrett, and Stephen Cattle.

    4. Centurion SEMLA Sixes.

      A report was circulated at the meeting. A profit of £1,103.50 would be paid to SEMLA after deduction of the costs of medals for the next three years.

    5. Stan Smith Award

      Tom Brunner had expressed is thanks and asked me to pass on his appreciation to our members.

    6. Glasgow LC

      A report on their progress has been received from Glasgow LC.

  4. TREASURER’S REPORT

    The club had spent record sums on development of the game this year around £10,000 had been spent if the SELET support were to be included. As a result, expenditure exceeded income by some £1,700.

  5. ELA

    1. The Centurions grant of £3,000 was assured for one more year.
    2. David Shuttleworth updated the meeting on recent developments at the ELA including the success of the application for support from Sport England to enhance the development of the game in the universities.
  6. SEMLA COUNTY TOURNAMENT

    The president reported all was in order for the forthcoming tournament.

    SEMLA was considering the structure of the tournament for the future. It was agreed that management of tournaments in the southern area was a matter for SEMLA.

The date of the next meeting will be 5th July 2011.
