Minutes of the General Committee of The Centurion Lacrosse Club held at The Market Porter Public House, Stone Street, London SE1 on 5th July 2011.

Present: Peter Mundy (President), Ron Balls, Neil Forsyth, Steve Williams, Rob Collinge (Secretary).

APOLOGIES were received from Amit Biswas, Mick Chennel, Denis Hanks, Roger Okill, and Geoffrey Wilkinson. David Shuttleworth of the ELA also sent his apologies.

  1. MINUTES of the General Committee meeting held on 10th May 2011 were approved.

  2. MATTERS ARISING

    None.

  3. SECRETARY’S REPORT

    1. Development.

      1. We have provided 10 sets of pairs of gloves, helmets and sticks to Chester University for delivery in September.
      2. Discussions continue with the University of Derby. Alan Holdsworth is organising a meeting with the director of the Athletic Union and one of the students eager to get lacrosse played at Derby.
      3. Keele University have requested support with PR materials which have been provided. Alan Holdsworth has been advised of the activity.
    2. New Members.

      The following new members have joined the club; Matt Bagley and Giles Clark.

      We have now run out of ties and so Denis Hanks is organising a further supply.

    3. Centurion SEMLA Sixes.

      Denis Hanks has sourced a further three year’s medals for the competition.

  4. TREASURER’S REPORT

    Subscriptions are coming in well. Income to date is £4,757. Expenditure is £2,223. Currently the bank balance is £5,575.

  5. ELA

    1. Ron Balls summarised in recent success in fund raising and preparations for a Sport England audit.
    2. Alan Holdsworth has retired as Chair of the Men’s Playing Committee. After a discussion it was agreed to support Eddie Owen as his successor at the ELA AGM.
  6. SEMLA COUNTY TOURNAMENT

    A successful Tournament took place at Reading. It was won by Greater London. Thanks have been received from SEMLA for the Centurions organisation of the tournament.

    SEMLA is now considering the county structure to better align it with development and the British National tournament. A southern county tournament, to be organised by SEMLA, has been built into next season’s fixtures schedule.

  7. AOB.

    1. Handbook. As there had been no reaction to the absence of the Handbook last year it was decided to discontinue its production.
    2. Committee meetings would be held on 6th September and 8th November. Peter Mundy agreed to make the necessary arrangements with The Market Porter.
    3. E News. Copies of the E News should be posted on the website.
    4. University Development. The Secretary was asked to liaise with Dave Coldwell to identify targets for expansion.
    5. Yorkshire Archive. The secretary was asked to obtain more details of the archive held by Lawrie Gardner.
    6. The secretary was to liaise with Denis Hanks to propose a date for the House of Lord’s dinner.
